When Ilisapeci Movono was just 3 years old, she became the face of the first ever Pacific Games, known then as the South Pacific Games, when they were hosted by Fiji in 1963.
She became known as Hibiscus Girl because of a photo which was used on postcards, scarves and even clothing which ended up in homes right across the Pacific.
Now as athletes, their coaches and team support staff make their final preparations ahead of this year’s Pacific Games in Solomon Islands, Ilisapeci has been reflecting on her role at the inaugural event sixty years ago as part of the ABC’s Pacific Games Storytelling Competition.
