US funding for Pacific Resilience Facility survives aid cuts

United States government funding for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat’s Pacific Resilience Facility has survived the Trump administration’s massive cuts to foreign aid.

PIF Secretary General Baron Waqa says the US had initially suspended $9 million funding for the climate change funding program but it has now been approved.

“We’re very grateful to the US government for lifting the suspension and we look forward, and keep working on, getting this ready for our leaders’ endorsement at the end of the year,” Mr Waqa said.
But Mr Waqa said the US aid cuts have affected several agencies of the Council of Regional Organisations (CROP).
